A companion Hi-8 User's group merged into DTV Group in 1995.
The Group's labs in Cambridge became the home of NewMedia Lab
, doing digital video testing of hardware and software for NewMedia magazine from 1994 to 1999.
With the development of HDTV and SDTV, the group expanded to cover the new digital television technologies, especially editing systems and new display technologies, including LCD and Plasma Panels, and LCD and DLP Projectors.
In 1998, members of the Group began experimenting with video webcasting, assisting Harvard University Extension School to post their first distance learning class on the web.
